Gynecomastia (Female-like Breasts) — From a hunched chest to a toned male chest

From a hunched chest
to a toned male chest!

By removing female-like breasts that have developed in men,
we resolve insecurities and create a firm, masculine chest.

Prologue

It refers to cases where male breasts enlarge like female breasts due to the accumulation of mammary gland and fat tissues,
and it also includes cases where, even in lean individuals with almost no fat, only the mammary glands are developed, making the areola area protrude.
Fat tissue is removed through liposuction, and mammary gland tissue is excised.

Gynecomastia (Male Breast Enlargement) Causes, Types, Simon Grade Diagnosis, and High-Resolution Ultrasound Diagnosis — TANG:GLE Plastic Surgery

Cause

Causes of Male Chest Enlargement

Causes can be categorized into benign tumors, malignant tumors, and gynecomastia.

Gynecomastia is the most common cause and can occur due to hypertrophy of adipose tissue (pseudogynecomastia), idiopathic factors, drug-related influences, hormonal imbalances, and more.

Gynecomastia can be divided into true gynecomastia, where glandular breast tissue develops, and pseudogynecomastia, which is caused by obesity.

Cross-sectional illustration of true gynecomastia — Anatomical cross-section of a swollen male chest due to developed glandular tissue. Depicted in layers of skin, fat layer, red glandular tissue, and muscle layer.

True Gynecomastia

True gynecomastia is more likely to develop in men whose mammary glands are exceptionally sensitive to certain female hormones;

it can also occur when medications prescribed for male pattern hair loss suppress male hormones, leading to enlarged glandular tissue,

or when female hormone levels rise in the body.

Cross-sectional illustration of pseudogynecomastia — Anatomical cross-section of a swollen male chest due to accumulated adipose tissue. Depicted with small glandular tissue and a thick yellow fat layer.

Pseudogynecomastia

Pseudogynecomastia occurs when fat accumulates in the chest area without a specific medical cause, leading to an enlarged chest;

even if the chest size falls within the normal range, if it causes significant stress,

it can broadly be considered gynecomastia.

Type

Types of Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is divided into three types: muscular type, obese type, and mixed type.

You can undergo the appropriate gynecomastia surgery by matching your individual symptoms.

Diagnosis

Gynecomastia Grade Diagnosis

Gynecomastia can be divided into four grades depending on the degree of breast development, allowing for an accurate diagnosis and surgery tailored to each grade.

It falls under Simon Grade IIa or higher, and through precise diagnostics such as breast ultrasound,

health insurance coverage is applicable if the mammary gland tissue has proliferated by 2 cm or more.

Simon's Grade I — Side view illustration of a male chest with only the nipple and areola protruding convexly. Simon's Grade IIa — Side view illustration of a male chest with the nipple and part of the breast skin protruding. Simon's Grade IIb — Side view illustration of a male chest with the entire breast skin protruding and accompanied by mild skin sagging. Simon's Grade III — Side view illustration of a male chest with the entire breast skin protruding and accompanied by ptosis (severe sagging).

Ultrasonic Diagnosis

TANG:GLE Plastic Surgery

High-resolution ultrasound diagnosis for gynecomastia

Through high-precision ultrasound diagnosis, we identify the cause of gynecomastia, which varies from person to person, and establish an improvement plan accordingly.

In a consultation room, a medical staff member wearing a black mask and scrubs is examining a male patient's chest with a high-resolution ultrasound holding a probe. An ultrasound machine monitor and console are positioned on the left.
TANG:GLE FULL HD ULTRASOUND DIAGNOSIS

Identifying the distribution of mammary gland and fat tissue
through high-resolution ultrasound diagnosis

By identifying the distribution of mammary gland and

fat tissue through pre-operative high-resolution ultrasound diagnosis, we evaluate the severity of the symptoms and

diagnose whether it falls under a grade eligible for medical insurance coverage.

When Simon Grade IIa or higher + mammary gland proliferation of 2 cm or more is confirmed,

National Health Insurance can be applied.

*As terms and conditions for private indemnity insurance vary by insurance company,

please contact your insurance provider for exact details.

  • First

For close consultation and examination before surgery,

the specialist in charge performs the ultrasound examination in person.

  • Second

It is possible to measure the amount of mammary gland tissue,

which could not be checked with conventional low-resolution ultrasound. Quantitative measurement

of the fat layer's thickness is possible, enabling customized surgery for each body type.

  • Third

Through ultrasound examination, we find the most suitable method for each individual's body type,

perform safe surgery through the optimal surgical approach,

and can even screen for male breast diseases.

Q

Is liposuction around the mammary gland mandatory during gynecomastia surgery?

A

In most gynecomastia patients, not only has the mammary gland tissue proliferated, but adipose tissue has also grown throughout the entire chest. In such cases, liposuction must be performed to properly remove the fatty tissue surrounding the mammary glands. If only the mammary glands are removed, a hollow, sunken appearance will be created around the areola. In cases where only the mammary gland tissue is developed, good results can be achieved through glandular excision alone via an incision in the areolar area.

TANG:GLE Gynecomastia

Who is it effective for?

Find out if your symptoms correspond to gynecomastia at TANG:GLE Plastic Surgery.

  • 01 When the chest has developed like a woman's
  • 02 When the area around the areola is generally plump
  • 03 When hard mammary gland tissue is felt around the nipples
  • 04 When only one side of the chest has developed prominently
  • 05 When the chest area does not decrease even with weight loss

How?

TANG:GLE Gynecomastia

How is the surgery performed?

Satisfactory results can be achieved by choosing the right surgical method through personalized diagnosis and analysis tailored to body shape.
Through minute incisions in the armpits or around the areola, mammary tissue and fat tissue are removed to ensure the surgery leaves minimal to no scarring.

Liquefying fat with VASER 2.0

Using VASER 2.0, only the fat layer is selectively liquefied without causing damage to nerves, blood vessels, and other tissues. Even when a large amount of fat is suctioned using VASER, bleeding is minimized, and skin tightening is induced.
